BLS-4 : LIBRARY CATALOGUING THEORY

1.1  Library catalogue reflects the library collection-elucidate the statement. Make a comparative study of bibliography, shelf list and library catalogue.

OR

1.2  Give a brief account of physical forms of library catalogue. Make a comparison of card form and Machine Readable Form of library catalogue.

2.1  Enumerate the different types of entries in a classified catalogue. Explain the role of reference entries.

OR

2.2 Distinguish between the terms centralised and co-operative cataloguing. Explain the need for a union catalogue bringing out clearly the pre-requisites for the compilation of a union catalogue.

3.1 Discuss with examples the treatment in AACR and CCC of following types of corporate authorship : Institutions, Religious Bodies, and Conferences.

3.2 What do you mean by uniform titles? Discuss with examples the treatment of uniform titles in AACR - 2R, 1988.

4.1 What do you understand by subject cataloguing ? Discuss the role of indexing language in subject cataloguing.

OR

4.2 Enumerate the role of cross-references in alphabetical subject catalogue. Show the treatment of cross-references in LCSH with adequate examples.

5.0 Write short notes on any three of the following :
